Our Story

Cranky Carrot started where most good things do; with two people, a kitchen, and a problem they couldn't stop thinking about. Fran brought the nutrition science. Fred brought the hospitality heart. Together, they built a healthy café where every menu item earns its place and every customer leaves feeling like family.

Our Philosophy

Real food, real ingredients, real results. We don't believe in shortcuts, fake colors, or "healthy" stuff that isn't actually healthy. Every juice we press, every bowl we build, and every bite we serve is rooted in one belief: what you eat should make you feel something. The good kind of something.

Our Goal

To prove that a healthy café can be a community staple, not a luxury. We're here to feed Houston the good stuff and to make sure the good stuff actually tastes good. Every location, every farmers market, every catering order is one more shot at changing what "healthy food" can be.

How It Started

We were tired of "healthy" food that wasn't actually healthy.

We started juicing in Fredy’s mom’s kitchen during the pandemic — just trying to take better care of our health. We began sharing our creations with friends and family and quickly realized: we make pretty good juice!

But beyond that, we discovered something deeper. Most people genuinely want to eat healthier and take better care of themselves — they just don't always know where to start.

At the same time, we saw an industry filled with products marketed as "healthy" that often fell short when it came to ingredient quality, transparency, and nutrition. Too many brands were focused on selling trends while ignoring a fundamental truth: healthy eating isn't one-size-fits-all.

Francesca Costa, MS, RHP, CPT

Francesca is a Puerto Rican Functional Nutritionist, Certified Personal Trainer, and co-founder of Cranky Carrot Juice Co.

Her approach to nutrition was deeply shaped by her own health journey. After years of struggling with chronic digestive symptoms, Francesca discovered the transformative power of functional nutrition and root-cause healing. That experience became the foundation of CCJC's philosophy: that wellness is not one-size-fits-all. What nourishes one person may not nourish another, and what supports your body in one season of life may not be what it needs in the next.

With advanced training in gut health, hormone balance, and blood chemistry, Francesca has worked as a WIC nutritionist for the Houston Health Department and alongside Houston's leading integrative medicine practitioners. She is also the founder of The Holistic Latina, a private practice focused on helping clients uncover and address the underlying causes of their health concerns while optimizing health and longevity through comprehensive lab testing, personalized nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and targeted wellness strategies.

At CCJC, Francesca wears many hats — from operations and marketing to logistics and finance — but her greatest passion is leading menu development and nutrition strategy, ensuring every item is thoughtfully crafted with both flavor and wellness in mind.

Fredy Escobar

Fredy is the heart of Cranky Carrot Juice Co.—a true people-person with a passion for hospitality and connection. Fredy has a natural talent for cultivating meaningful relationships and creating a welcoming, family-like environment for our guests and team alike.At CCJC, Fredy has been the brains behind our kombucha and bone broth program as well as oversees daily food and beverage operations ensuring every customer experience is warm, seamless, and memorable.You can typically find Fred coaching our amazing team, making his famous bone broth, picking up produce, or setting up for one of our farmers market appearances.Fred and Fran are also proud pommy parents to three spoiled Pomeranians—Gucci, Simba, and Tofu.

Nathalie serves as CCJC's Human Resources Manager and Community Liaison, bringing extensive experience in healthcare administration, integrative medicine, and small business operations. With a career spanning holistic medical practices, hospitals, and community-focused organizations, she plays a key role in supporting our team, strengthening company culture, and ensuring our people remain at the heart of everything we do.

Born and raised in Houston, Nathalie is deeply connected to the communities we serve. She helps identify opportunities for CCJC to make a meaningful local impact while fostering partnerships with fellow small businesses, nonprofits, healthcare providers, and community organizations.

Her passion for relationship-building, combined with her background in operations, human resources, and client care, helps bridge the gap between our mission and the people we aim to serve. Known for her compassionate leadership and commitment to helping others, Nathalie is dedicated to creating positive experiences for both our team and our community.
